Yubaraj Sangroula is the Executive Director of the Kathmandu School of Law and President of the Asian Association of Law Professors (AALP) and the Himalayan BRI and Development Affairs Council. He is a Professor of Jurisprudence and International Law. He is a Senate Member of Purbanchal University, Nepal, as well as a member of the Academic Council of Mid-Western University, Nepal. He is also a member of the committee tasked with establishing the National Defense University of Nepal. He was also a consultant in developing the curriculum and has been instrumental in establishing the new law school under Mid-Western University.
He served as the Attorney General of Nepal in 2011 and as Convener (equivalent to State Minister) of the High-Level Taskforce for Reforms of the Security Agencies of Nepal in 2009, followed by Advisor to the Ministry of Home Affairs. In these capacities, he played a crucial role in strengthening Nepal’s justice system. He also worked as the Chairman of the Bar Council of Nepal and a Member of the Execution Preparatory Committee for the Formulation of the Crime Code and Criminal Procedure Code of Nepal, which came into force in August 2018, thus changing the entire structure of the Criminal Justice System of Nepal. He is a visiting professor at several universities in Asia. For his outstanding contribution to popularizing Economic, Social, and Development Rights, the Society of Indian Law Firms and Menon Institute of Law and Advocacy Training awarded him the SAARC Law Scholar Award in 2012. In 2014, the Renmin University of China Law School awarded him the honour of the Grand Forum of the Best Jurists for his presentation on International Law in Asia. In 2017, he was awarded the Nepal Education Leadership Award.
He is currently working on a book titled “Decolonization of International Law,” in which he attempts to present international law from an Asian perspective.
